Kingman, AZ HD

Broke the 5000 mile mark on the trip today and stopped by the Harley Davidson dealer in Kingman, AZ to get the oil Changed on both bikes. The dealer is also the Yamaha and Honda Dealer. They were great about bringing us in and out with in an hour.  So here is a shout out to the guys at the Mother Road H-D in Kingman AZ. Dawnia and Dave in the Service Department were a great help.

The ride from SF down I-5 was a fast and hot 290 miles from 12 to 4:30. We stayed at another Best Western Camp Ground and visited the Bakersfield, CA H-D for t-shirts.

We left Bakersfield and rode across the Mojave Desert today. It was a wonderful ride at first 60-70 degrees. But by the time we reached Needles CA it was 97 and roasting. Good thing we didn't make this ride in the summer.

While crossing the desert we rode past the borax site "twenty mule team" stuff.

Wine, Whales and back into San Francisco

Monday May 2nd we were riding through Sonoma and Napa Valleys
This is the City square in Sonoma. Roses here are beautiful.

Some of the vines at the "Valley of the Moon" Winery

Flowers in the Garden of another Winery.

Point Reyes - Sir Frances Drakes Beach and the cliffs . Drake landed here on his round the world trip and raids on the Spanish gold ships.

The beach north from Point Reyes- The Wind was blowing hard and it was 38 degrees here.

Flowers on the Rocks near the light house-waiting to photograph the two whales I saw. We are up about 500 Feet or better above the water.

The light house - its closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays---good things the stairs were equivalent of 30 stories down - then we would have had to come back up.

Two grey whales- a mother and her calf. Look at the bottom of the photo and double click to bring it up in you picture viewer.

Alcatraz---again

Bay with sail boats. Today was opening day of the sailing season in SF

People walk and bike across the bridge in addition to 6 lanes of traffic. Fun ride across.

This is the "Bay Bridge" from SF to Oakland

Half Moon Bay, California

On the ocean-no photo's yet but we are just 30 miles out of San Francisco. Drove from Salinas to Big Sur today and back up. CA 1 was closed 30 miles south of Big Sur so we rode up to the slide and back tracked and came around up 101 and then back down to Big Sur and back tracked out of there today.

Windy riding - 20-30 mph winds with 40-50 mph guest and it was cold 40 degrees along the water. 70 degrees inland a few miles. Wind was the big issue on the narrow roads.

Carmel by the sea along 1

More of water in Carmel

Looking north from 1 about 10 miles south of Monteray Bay, Very windy and nearly blew over the bike on its stand. Highest point on this part of the ride.

 Down town Big Sur

South of Big Sur on 1 we rode across this twice today. This was the longest of about 8 bridges we rode across twice today.

Another view south from 1

View from our table at lunch in Big Sur

Another shot of lunch view.

I should have taken a lot of photos of the flowers here. They are all in bloom and they are everywhere.

Light house on the point near Half Moon Bay.

130 miles south of San Francisco

130 miles south of San Francisco.... another long day but not a lot of milage.
